Boron-oxide-free and fluorine-free heat-resistant glass fiber suitable as an acoustic material comprises (in wt. %): SiO2 56-58.5, Al2O3 12-17, CaO 16-27, 1-9 MgO, 0-1 Na2O and 0-1 K2O. The glass fiber has a 0.1-1.0 microns thick surface layer portion made of a silicic glass having SiO2 content of at least 90 wt. %. The difference between a glass fiber spinning temperature, which is a melting temperature of a glass having viscosity 100 Pa.s, and a liquidus temperature is at least 30 deg C. An Independent claim is given for the production of the heat-resistant glass fiber, which involves treating the surface of a boron-oxide-free and fluorine-free heat-resistant glass fiber comprising (in wt. %) SiO2 56-58.5, Al2O3 12-17, CaO 16-27, 1-9 MgO, 0-1 Na2O and 0-1 K2O with a mineral acid. The treatment is carried out by immersing the glass fiber in an aqueous solution of a mineral acid selected from 1-10 wt. % of HCl, H2SO4 and/or HNO3 at 0-90 deg C.
|
