摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect an inverter and an electric motor driven by the inverter from an overcurrent over the total operation range by operating a brake chopper device provided for regeneration even at the time of power operation. SOLUTION: A brake chopper device for an electric car is provided with a chopper device at the DC side of the inverter that converts DC electric power from a DC power source into AC electric power to feed the electric motor that drives electric cars and a load for the chopper device. The consumed electric power of the load of the chopper device is controlled based on both the amount of the DC voltage of the inverter, and the increased portion per unit time of the voltage when the inverter is in the regeneration state. At the time of the power operation of the inverter, the consumed electric power of the load of the chopper device is controlled based on only the increased portion per unit time of the DC voltage.
