PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplex optical transmission system that conducts PMD compensation for an optical signal that is wavelength-multiplexed at a high-speed with a small size and a reduced weight. SOLUTION: The wavelength multiplex optical transmission system is provided with a demultiplexer 11 that demultiplexes a received optical signal that is wavelength-multiplexed by each prescribed channel block, a plurality of PMD compensation circuits 13 that applies PMD compensation to each optical signal demultiplexed by the demultiplexer 11, a wavelength variable filter 17 that selectively outputs the optical signal with a desired wavelength in the optical signals outputted from each PMD compensation circuit 13, a plurality of polarization analysis sections 19 that conducts polarization analysis by using a Jones matrix method on the basis of the optical signal whose wavelength is selected by the wavelength variable filter, and a plurality of compensation control sections 19 that controls PMD compensation by each PMD compensation circuit on the basis of the analysis result by each polarization analysis section 19. |
