PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of a basket in the insertion of a nuclear fuel assembly, surely prevent the positional slippage between plate members in the constitution of the basket by assembling the plate members in a grating shape, and enhance the strength of the basket and also the heat conductive property to the outside. SOLUTION: Plate members 40c-40f comprises a plurality of cutout parts 44a-44d to be mutually orthogonally engaged on both long edge-side end surfaces and protruding parts 33 on the longitudinal centers on both short edge-side end surfaces, respectively. The plate members 40c-40f having longitudinal through-holes extending through both the sort edge-side end surfaces are successively orthogonally combined to each other, and a heat exchanger plate is fitted between the adjacent protruding parts 33 to form a grating cell for housing a nuclear fuel assembly.
