PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens suitable to be used for a small digital camera, low in cost, mechanically and optically simple in configuration and capable of forming a high-quality image. SOLUTION: A 1st zoom lens unit 12 including a 1st negative lens element 101, a 2nd lens element 102 and a 3rd positive lens element 103, where at least one lens element 102 has an aspherical surface and having divergent optical power characteristic, and a 2nd zoom lens unit 14 including a 4th positive lens element 104, a 5th positive lens element 105 and a 6th negative lens element 106 which is concave toward an image side and having convergent optical power characteristic are disposed in order from a subject side. Zooming is performed by changing a distance between the 1st and the 2nd zoom lens units 12 and 14.
