PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely display characters by various expanding methods through simple operation for specifying an expanding method with a pointing device according to a displayed picture and inputting a character strings on a keyboard. SOLUTION: While an expanding method specification picture for specifying one of expanding methods among plural expanding methods and a character input picture for inputting a character string are displayed on a CRT display 3, the character string inputted through the keyboard 8 is displayed on the CRT display 3 by the expanding method specified with the pointing device 7 on the expanding method specification picture.
