PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nickel powder, having a narrow distribution range of a grain size and a small total quantity of impurities and suitable for a conductive paste to be used for forming a thin inner electrode layer, and also to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A slurry contains a nickel powder which includes at most 5%, in the number to the total number of particles in the powder, of such particles whose grain diameter is at least 1.2 times as large as the average grain diameter and at most 5% of such particles, whose grain diameter is at most 0.8 times as large as the average grain diameter, under observation through SEM, and a nickel hydroxide obtained by adding a nickel salt aqueous solution to an alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution. The slurry is brought into contact with a hydrazine-based reducer at least 55 deg.C, to reduce the nickel hydroxide.
