PURPOSE: A method for acquiring a fingerprint using a linear fingerprint detecting sensor is provided to accurately restore a fingerprint image by dividing a fingerprint image into a plurality of areas, by calculating the optimal position of each division area, and by compensating the fingerprint distorted vertically or horizontally. CONSTITUTION: A fingerprint image is successively captured through a fingerprint detecting sensor. The fingerprint image scanned according to a fixed time and speed is divided into determined segments. Each image strip and segment is compared with neighboring image strips. After that, the optimal overlap area is detected. A change value of the average image is calculated through the overlap area. The change value is applied to each image strip. Whole images are combined.
