The vehicle (11) method includes equipment driven by a computer (15,16) and onboard fault finder (10) designed to transmit to the computer a data request and to receive a computer response. The unit (10) processes the response to determine if the computer and/or equipment is faulty. The unit (10) after processing the data request, transmits it to the computer and processes the response uniquely for configuration parameters memorized in the unit (10). At the time of finding a computer and/or equipment fault the fault finder (10) transmits an alarm signal to a remote center. This center is designed to transmit to the fault finder (10) data corresponding to new parameters. The old parameters contained in the fault finders memory being replaced by the new ones. The fault finder is designed to be connected to a computer exterior to the vehicle. The unit(10) transmits data periodically for at least two data requests in a set order, the period of the data request train being a memorized parameter from the unit (10).
