The method involves inputting the compared and ordered performance characteristics of a communication terminal in the form of a menu in the uppermost menu level of the communication terminal, in which the menu structure is always automatically passed for current counting state. A comparator is used to compare and order the meter reading results of individual counters in accordance with the sequence of the utilization frequency. The counters are assigned to every performance characteristic to count the number of activations of every performance characteristic. Every performance characteristic activated by a user is stored in a menu, in which the storage locations are structured according to shift register principle. The performance characteristic used finally by the user is always registered at the first location of the menu, while the following performance characteristics are located downward in the menu shift. The performance characteristic residing to the last location of the menu is overwritten. The performance characteristics summarized according to the shift register principle are inputted in the uppermost menu level of the communication terminal.
