[Also in Division D1] A non-woven carpet is made by needling at least one fibre batt on a needle loom, on both sides thereof, and bonding a layer of reinforcing material to the surface of the resultant needled batt opposite to that where the last active stroke of the needles has ended in the course of said needling. In one embodiment, a needled batt is adhesively bonded to a canvas layer. In a further embodiment, a batt 6 of mixed black and white nylon fibres made by needling from each surface with pushing needles, impregnating with an acrylic resin dispersion, coating the surface into which the needles penetrated during the second needling with an adhesive is bonded by its coated surface to a needled undercarpet consisting of jute cloth 11 and batt 7 of jute, wool and nylon fibres, a backing sheet 9 of jute cloth being adhesively secured to batt 7.</p> |
