The pressure for opening a spool (30) serving as a suction control valve is obtained not by introducing refrigerant gas from a crank chamber (8) but by leading refrigerant gas, which is present downstream of a control valve (81), directly (rather than via the crank chamber (8)) to the spool valve (30), so that as compared with an arrangement in which a passageway leading from the crank chamber (8) to the spool valve (30) is opened/closed by a hinge ball (90) slidably mounted on a shaft (5), hunting hardly occurs in the suction control valve (30) during the minimum piston stroke operation (minimum-intermediate piston stroke operation) not requiring a large discharge amount, for example, during the low-load, high speed rotation.
