A first cup seal (21) lies upstream of the sleeve between piston (2) and body (11) as opposed to a second cup seal (24) lying downstream of the connecting channel (22a) between sleeve and piston (32). The brake cylinder has a housing (10) and cylinder cap (12) over the inside bore (11a) at the open end of the body (11), with a first piston (31) riding axially in the housing plus a second piston (32) which precedes the first and rides axially in the same direction. The two pistons are supported by a sleeve (23) positioned in the housing (10), the second piston (32) retracting a set distance from its brake release position.
