Requested data is read by an interrupt processing at ST46 from a DVD disk, and ID information indicating the head position of the data and an EDC discriminating result indicating the validity or non-validity of the data are stored at ST47. When a flag is set as being DVD-Video at ST48, the number of retries N is found larger than NR at ST50 and the read data is found not to be a control data at ST51, data is transferred. When a flag is not set, a disk is discriminated at ST49 based on whether or not data in a preset position on a logical format has a preset data. When an error detection is discriminated at ST52 and the number of retries N is found larger than NS at ST53, an error occurrence is notified.
