The data transmission method has data transmitted between a transponder (16) onboard an automobile (12) and a roadside interrogation station (20), with the energy store supplying the transponder recharged via contactless energy transfer from a roadside charging station (18), positioned ahead of the interrogation station. The latter provides an interrogation signal at a first frequency, received by the transponder upon entering the transmission range (24), for transmitting data back to the interrogation station at a different frequency.
