1,156,073. Anaesthetic evaporators. O. H. DRAGER [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR & BERNH DRAGER]. 28 Sept., 1967 [17 Dec., 1966], No 44307/67. Heading A5T. An evaporator for anaesthetic to be administered to a patent comprises a container to be partly filled with anaesthetic 5 to be evaporated, a main duct 1, 11, 13 for nutrient gas, a branch conduit leading from the main duct at a first location 2 into the container and back to the main duct at a second location, an adjustable regulating device 10 arranged to control the proportion of nutrient gas which is enriched with vapourised anaesthetic, a venting conduit 14 leading from the interior of the container to its exterior, and an on-off valve 16 arranged so that the venting conduit can be closed while the evaporator is in use and opened when it is out of use, the exterior mouth of the venting conduit being located at a lower level than the first and second locations. The venting conduit is said to prevent the patient receiving a high concentration of anaesthetic when the evaporator is first brought into use. As shown, the evaporator includes a throttle 12 in the main nutrient gas (e.g. air) supply duct, a quantity of water 8 which maintains the temperature of the evaporator constant, a cylindrical wick 6 which takes up the liquid anaesthetic 5, and a spiral-shaped path 7 in the branch conduit.
