PURPOSE: To provide a computer for safely rewriting all areas in which a boot program is stored by a few actions in an on-board mode. CONSTITUTION: This computer is provided with a CPU, a non-volatile memory divided into plural individually erasable divided areas which are respectively provided with a user area and a boot area designation flag, and an area destination flag for designating which user area among the plural user areas includes a boot program based on the data of the boot area destination flag. Then, which user area includes the program for starting the operation of the CPU is decided based on the data of the area designation flag. At the time of rewriting the program including the boot program, a new program is written, and the corresponding boot area designation flag is boot-designated, and the area designation flag is switched, and the rewriting of the user area in which the old program is written is operated.
