Rising stem plug valve

Rising stem plug valve 200 has a valve body 210 that receives a plug 212. The plug includes at least one plug portion 217 having openings 220 corresponding to an interior configuration. Rectangular ring cords 231 may substantially surround the openings in the plug to create a seal therearound. The plug may include upper and lower tapered plug portions with an untapered portion between them. The upper and lower portions may have different interior configurations and taper angles. An O-ring is provided on the untapered portion of the plug to maintain separation between the upper and lower plug portions. A handle assembly 214 may be attached to the plug for rotational movement of the plug between operative positions. Control assembly 226 may be attached to the plug for unseating and seating the plug using a ratchet mechanism.
