PURPOSE: A method for inputting a characters using a keypad is provided for a novice to input a character of a mobile terminal by constituting a Korean language input method using a method for combining five buttons corresponded to the Korean consonants, one button corresponded to the Korean vowel and four arrow buttons displaying directions and applying the method to the English language and the Japanese language. CONSTITUTION: If a basic character is received by pressing buttons being set a basic character as a phoneme(S20), an extension character of the received basic character is pre-displayed visually(S21). The basic character is changed(S23) into an extension character by pressing an arrow button(S22). The basic character of the extension character or another extension character is displayed visually through a display unit in accordance with each arrow direction, respectively(S23). If a button positioned at the reverse direction of the pressed arrow button is pressed(S24), the changed extension character is returned into the original basic character. If another arrow button is pressed(S24), the returned basic character or a pre-changed extension character is modified and changed into a different extension character(S25). After the above processes are performed, the next character is inputted(S26).
