In a circuit comprising a main power switch RL1 connected between an AC power supply and a main power supply circuit of an electric apparatus, and a standby power circuit D2, D4, C7, the standby power circuit receives AC power through a reactance device C3, C5, and supplies power to a remote control receiver RM1 and a sub-microcomputer IC1 for controlling the on/off state of the main power switch RL1. The standby power circuit includes capacitors C3, C5, rectifier D2, zener diode D4 and a capacitor 7. When a remote control "power on" signal is received by the remote control receiver RM1 the sub-microcomputer IC1 operates a switch driving unit including transistors Q1 and Q2 to power a relay CL from a power supply C4, D1, C6 and zener diode D3 so as to turn on a main power switch RL1. The sub-microcomputer IC1 also sends data via an opto coupler PC2 to control a main microcomputer of the apparatus. The main power supply of the apparatus includes a switching regulator (203, Fig 2).
