PURPOSE: To obtain a color filter with a uniform color tone and excellent surface flatness and a liquid crystal display device with a colored resist method or a dyeing method using an inkjet system. CONSTITUTION: A black matrix BM to divide a pixel region of a substrate SUB2 is formed. Subsequently by forming a photosetting dyeing substrate layer DP, by irradiating the substrate with ultraviolet rays from the rear side and by developing it, an ink reservoir is formed, of which the BM constitutes a partition wall and a dyeing material such as a dyestuff is supplied to the ink reservoir with the inkjet system. As the partition wall prevents the dyeing material from being scattered into the adjacent or neighboring pixel regions and from bringing about color mixing and a filter with sufficient thickness is formed at the ink reservoir, the surface flatness of the color filter is sufficiently ensured without thickly coating an overcoat layer.
