A process control configuration system integrates the configuration and documentation of devices connected to a control network using local I/O protocols (4-20ma, HART, Fieldbus), with the configuration and documentation of devices connected to the control network using a remote I/O protocol (Profibus, AS-Interface). This enables the control system to communicate with and control different types of field devices using different protocols using a common configuration database. A data access routine automatically requests configuration information pertaining to a Profibus device network and configuration information pertaining to a local I/O device network. A configurator stores Profibus device network information and local I/O network device information in the configuration database. A documentation routine accesses the database to display a process control documentation schematic illustrating the configuration of the local I/O network and the Profibus network. |
