Designing, configuring and managing a process control network

Spatial layout information of the devices in a chemical or manufacturing facility is input to a computer for display along with information on how the process control network for managing the devices is configured. A program analyses the relationship to advantageously allow the efficient design and use of the process control system while ensuring that the physical characteristics of the system conform to the standard communications protocol employed in the network . In addition, the program provides for more efficient diagnostics, on-line debugging, alarm monitoring and device maintenance.
