PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for a hydrothermal reaction, capable of efficiently separating inhibitors of a catalyst and efficiently decomposing nitrogen compounds at high temperatures. SOLUTION: A material 2 to be reacted containing nitrogen compounds and an oxidizing agent 4 are supplied to a hydrothermal reactor 1 to carry out a hydrothermal reaction in a critical or subcritical state, thereby decomposing the nitrogen compounds. The reaction products are introduced into an insolubilizing apparatus 7 to insolubilize the inhibitors of the catalyst. The insolubilized inhibitors are separated by a separator 11, and then, the reaction products are introduced into a catalytic reactor 14 to decompose ammonia and/or N2O contained in the reaction products, thereby obtaining a processed product 21.
