METHOD AND EQUIPMENT FOR PROCESSING COLOR IMAGE DATA, FOR MAINTAINING EDGE QUALITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by maintaining edge quality. SOLUTION: Reception of color image data composed of a plurality of color planes which are connected to form arrays of composite pixels and also comprise at least one black plane and at least one non-black plane is executed. Each color plane is constituted of the array of separate pixels comprising at least two states, that is, a first state corresponding to that no ink is made to stick to an image position and a second state corresponding to that the ink is made to stick to the image position. An interface between a black area and a non-printing area is discriminated and the boundaries in an N pixel width in the black area are defined. Moreover, the color image data corresponding to the boundaries in the N pixel width are modified and the number of the separate pixels in the second state in the non-black plane is reduced. Thereby a pixel pattern is modified and the edge quality is maintained.
