PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for productively manufacturing a block copolymer excellent in quality. SOLUTION: In manufacturing a block copolymer comprising a methacrylic polymer block and an acrylic polymer block by a controlled radical polymerization, an acrylic polymer block is obtained by polymerization using as an initiator an organic bromide or a sulfonyl bromide compound and as a catalyst a metal complex bearing, as a central metal, copper contained in copper bromide, and, at a conversion of 80-95%, a methacrylic monomer and a metal complex bearing, as a central metal, copper contained in copper chloride are added to continue the polymerization.
