PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bis[(arylcarbonyl)aryl]ethers which are important compounds as a monomer of a heat resistant and a chemical resistant resin and a terminal modifier, using phenols and/or phenolates as a raw material. SOLUTION: Bis [(arylcarbonyl)aryl]ethers are manufactured by reacting phenols and/or phenolates expressed by general formula (1) (M is one or more kinds of atom selected from H or alkali metal, may be same or different) and 2,2-difluoro-1,3-dimethyl-imidazolidine.
