PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sintering an Ni-Al series intermetallic compound capable of easily controlling the reacting process. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an intermetallic compound by subjecting a green compact of raw material metal powder to reaction sintering, in the meanwhile in which the green compact is heated to a sintering temperature, the same is isothermally held in a temperature range in which the solid phase reaction between metals occurs.
