1,159,110. Disperse monoazo dyes. SANDOZ Ltd. 29 Nov., 1966 [16 Dec., 1965], No. 53324/66. Heading C4P. The invention comprises disperse azo dyes of the general formula wherein A is H, Cl, Br or nitro, R 1 is a carbonyl or sulphonyl group; R 2 is H, C 1 -C 2 alkyl or #- cyanoethyl; R 3 and R 4 are H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl which may be substituted by Cl, Br, CN, or by an alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylcarbonyloxy or alkoxycarbonyloxy group having not more than 4 carbon atoms, and wherein ring B may be further substituted by non watersolubilizing groups i.e. groups other than free carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups, e.g. C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, Cl, Br, or acylamino. They are prepared by diazotizing a 4-nitro-2- (-N-# - cyanoethyl - carbonamido or sulphonamido)-aniline compound and coupling to an aniline derivative. The dyes give bluish-red shades on aromatic polyesters, cellulose di- and tri-acetates, polyamides, polyolefins and polyacrylonitriles.
