PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low core loss grain oriented silicon steel sheet having a film free from defects and excellent in adhesion. SOLUTION: At the time of producing a grain oriented silicon steel sheet, the texture of the surface layer of a steel sheet after primary recrystallization annealing is controlled in such a manner that the ratio of grain boundaries in which the misorientation angle between adjacent crystal grains is made <15 deg. or >=45 deg. is controlled to >=40% of the whole.
