PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can easily and promptly produce a carried catalyst of high performance in which ultrafine metal particles are uniformly dispersed and carries. SOLUTION: This method comprises a process in which the ultrafine particles of a catalyst metal produced by pyrolyzing an organic complex or a metal salt are dispersed in a prescribed solvent to prepare an ultrafine particle solution and a process in which the solution is mixed with water and a metal alkoxide which is the raw material of a carrier, and the metal alkoxide is hydrolyzed to produce colloidal metal oxide particles.
