PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing a nickel electrode of a battery for electric cars, which can activate the nickel electrode and increase the capacity of the electrode by changing the specific gravity of an electrolyte for a chemical conversion treatment of KOH. CONSTITUTION: The process for producing the nickel electrode comprises the steps of: forming and sintering nickel powder and a binder by a dry compaction method; impregnating the sintered electrode plate with an active material; performing the chemical conversion treatment in the KOH electrolyte by charging and discharging operations according to electric capacity, wherein the specific gravity of the KOH electrolyte is 1.1 to 1.3.
