Method for recycling a plastic component being provided with a surface coating

A surface coated plastic component is recycled by first subjecting it to a treatment to loosen the bond of the coating. The part is then treated cryogenically, e.g. with liquid nitrogen, to remove the coating without damaging the component. The removal can be assisted mechanically, e.g. by a particle jet of frozen carbon dioxide.
