PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet head, an ink jet recorder and a defect detecting device capable of readily and surely detecting an electric defect of the head. SOLUTION: There is disclosed an ink jet head wherein a driving voltage is applied to an electrode 15 provided to a side wall 13 of an ink passage 12 formed on a piezoelectric ceramic plate 11 and then a volume of the ink passage 12 is changed, thereby ejecting ink filled in the ink passage 12 from a nozzle hole 27. The ink jet head comprises a detecting means 53 for detecting an energizing condition of both of electrodes 15 that nip the side wall 13 when the voltage is applied to each of the electrodes 15 of the adjacent ink passages 12 and a judging means 54 for judging the electric defect based on the detected result of the detecting means 53, thereby readily detecting the electric defect.
