ESCALATOR ROLLER DEGRADATION MONITOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roller degradation monitor capable of automatically monitoring diameter of escalator rollers at any time in operation of the escalator. SOLUTION: In this monitor, a cam plate is disposed close to a roller track such that the cam plate sequentially contacts with an upper peripheral part of the escalator roller when the rollers advances along the roller track. A proximity switch or a proximity sensor monitors vertical displacement of the cam plate. A difference to a prescribed reference line caused by operation of the cam plate shows unevenness in the diameter of the rollers. Abrasion of the rollers or reduction of the diameter is continuously measured on the basis of output of the proximity switch or the proximity sensor. When the abrasion exceeds a prescribed value, an alarm can be operated.
