PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find out blowing conditions for preheating gas under which charges do not infiltrate a nozzle without creating raceways at a nozzle end when blowing the preheating gas to a blast furnace shaft section. SOLUTION: The cross sectional shape at the front end of the preheating gas blowing nozzle 3 is symmetrical to the center line and is formed to a shape that the upper side is converged toward its apex. The aperture area on the upper side is made smaller than the aperture area on the lower side. The front end of the nozzle is provided with ventilation plates 13 made of refractories for preventing the infiltration of the in-furnace charges into the nozzle. The upper limit of the flow velocity of the preheating gas at the nozzle front end is provided. The preheating gas blowing position is mounted in a position of 40 to 85% of the distance from the tuyere of a hearth section to an in-furnace charge stock line.
