ANTI-CANCER DRUG CONTAINING PROTOSAPPANIN A SEPARATED FROM CAESALPINIA SAPPAN L.

PURPOSE: An anticancer drug containing protosappanin A separated from Caesalpinia sappan L. is provided, which has much lower IC50 value than existing anticancer drug, activates caspase to induce apoptosis of cancer cells, so that it can be used as a better anticancer drug than the existing drug or can be used in a complex prescription with the existing anticancer drug. CONSTITUTION: A process for the preparation of protosappanin A(formula) from Caesalpinia sappan L. comprises the steps of: adding methanol to Caesalpinia sappan L., rotatory-extracting for 4hrs in water bath, filtering, and drying the extract under decompression; suspending the extract in water, extracting with ethylacetate to get ethylacetate fraction; processing silicagel column repeatedly the prepared ethylacetate fraction with a mixed solvent of chloroform/methanol(5:1) to get protosappanin A-contained fraction; and then recrystallizing the fraction in methanol to get pure protosappanin A. The anti-cancer drug containing protosappanin A can be prepared in the form of common preparation in a pharmaceutical part.
