A boiler which uses vegetable oil as a fuel has one or more coiled tubes (2) in the bottom of the firebox (1) through which the vegetable oil is passed, being superheated by the flames in the firebox so that it vaporises as it leaves the tube outlet (3). The fire in the firebox can be started with the aid of another fuel such as alcohol.
