PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and a printing method which can surely carry out an electronic sorting operation with no troublesome setting jobs required and accordingly can print plural copies at a high speed and with reduction of load on a host device. SOLUTION: A print job end decision means 14 is prepared to receive the print data from a host device to perform image processing of the print data, to print out the print data via an image forming device, to store the image data in a storage medium and to decide the end of a print job of the print data received from the host device together with a storage means which stores the number of copies designated by a number-of-copy designation means in a storage medium as the value of the remaining number of print copies, an electronic sorting means 15 which starts to print and output the image data stored in the storage means to the image forming device when the end of print job is decided and then outputs repetitively the printed image data from the storage medium to the image forming device according to the stored remaining number of print copies and an electronic sorting answer means 16 which answers whether the device 15 can operate or not to a prescribed command, etc., that is previously decided about whether an electronic sorting operation is possible and given from the host device.
