An evaluation unit reads and compares the produced image information from a camera (5), which takes up the image of a coverage (6), with a reference image. The evaluation unit analyzes a color characteristic in the protection zone of the coverage. The operation of a work tool within the coverage is controlled by the evaluation unit based on the detection of the security-critical object within the protection zone. An independent claim is also included for a work-tool coverage monitoring method.
