PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image editing device which can generate the caption frames and also can discriminate the vertical writing attributes from the horizontal writing attributes to display them. SOLUTION: An oblong caption frame is generated to add a caption to an image, and the vertical and horizontal lengths of oblong area of the caption frame are compared with each other. When the vertical length is longer than the horizontal length, a caption frame vertical/horizontal writing setting means 31 sets a vertical writing attribute. Meanwhile, the means 31 sets a horizontal writing attribute when the vertical length is shorter than the horizontal length respectively.
