PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an uninterruptible power supply, having a lighting protecting function capable of protecting communication equipment against thunder striking at relatively low cost with reliability. SOLUTION: A surge current of voltage due to a thunderbolt arriving via a commercial power line 30 or a communication line 31 is detected through a current probe 21. If it is detected through a lightning protection breaker circuit 23 that the surge current or voltage exceeds a specified value, an circuit breaker 20 is actuated to interrupt the power line and isolate communications equipment from the commercial power line 30. Through varistors 27 and arresters 28 installed between the commercial power line 30 and the communication line, surge current or voltage from the commercial power line 30 bypasses to the communication line 31, and surge current or voltage from the communication line 31 bypasses to the commercial power line 30. Thereby the lightning surge current or voltage from the commercial power line 30 or communication line 31 is prevented from infiltrating into the communications equipment.
