<p>The present invention discloses a method and composition for the treatment of bacterial infections by the parenteral introduction of a therapeutic agent comprising an effective amount of at least one lytic enzyme produced by a bacteria infected with a bacteriophage specific for said bacteria wherein the lytic enzyme is selected from the group consisting of lytic enzymes, and modified lytic enzymes such as shuffled lytic enzymes, chimeric lytic enzymes, and combinations thereof, wherein said lytic enzyme is in an appropriate carrier for delivering the lytic enzyme into a patient. The therapeutic agent may additionally include a holin enzyme, which may be a shuffled holin enzyme or a chimeric holin enzyme. The injection can be done intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously.</p> |
