The false wall has a carrier frame (26), assembled from metal profiles which are screwed together, which is anchored to the surface of the room wall and fitted with cladding panels (12) provided with a pre-finished external surface and having fixings at the rear for releasable attachment to the carrier frame. Joint profiles are inserted between the abutting edges of adjacent cladding panels, the bottom edges of the cladding panels engaging a foot rail (18) extending along the floor of the room.
