PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of displaying a high-quality video by illumination without irregular color even if the device is low-priced. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with three LED elements 1R, 1G and 1B performing light emission corresponding to three primary color components RGB, a single triangular prism 2, and a single transmission type liquid crystal display element 3. Then, the element 3 is illuminated by superposing optical paths from the respective LED elements 1R, 1G and 1B to the display element 3 as the optical path of nearly the same optical axis AX by the prism 2.
