摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely locate a single container in the center of a covering metal by using not plural containers but the container and to permit ultrasonic tests by preventing interstices from appearing between the solidified covering metal and the container. SOLUTION: First, radioactive wastes 12 is encased in a metal container 13, which has supporting metal legs 14 and is so constituted that a covering metal in a molten condition can pass through the legs 14. Then, the container 13 is housed in a mold 17 that has an opening 17c at its top, with a prescribed interval between the container 13 and the inner wall of the mold 17 made by the support legs 14. Subsequently, the mold 17 is filled with the covering metal in the molten condition, whose melting point is lower than those of the container 13 and the support legs 14 and the metal is cooled and solidified to form a vitrified solid. Thereafter, it is taken out from the mold 17. It is desirable that the radioactive wastes 12 be metals, whose melting points are not lower than that of the covering metal, and it is preferable that the container 13 and the support legs 14 be made of carbon steel and that the covering metal be also cast iron or stainless steel.
