PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which can perform its control so as not to turn on a semiconductor laser in unnecessary timing. SOLUTION: When the image data are transmitted from a P.C. 1 to a printer controller part, the F.M. 3a-3d are selected by a data decoder system controller 2 in every color in a printer controller and then stored in each memory area. A single/plural color discrimination circuit 4 discriminates whether the transmitted image data have a single color or plural colors. The result of this discrimination is transmitted to a printer engine which turns on the switches 6a-6d of a semiconductor laser power circuit 5 according to the received result of discrimination. Thus, the laser drive base boards 7a-7d become effective.
