The method involves guiding a position sensor (6) into the patient's body. The sensor position relative to a point or volume (2) to be irradiated is output. The patient's body is positioned using the position sensor signal, so that the point or volume to be irradiated is in a determined area about an isocentre (3) of the radiation device. One or more reference points (4,5) of the position sensor are used to determine the sensor position. Independent claims are included for a device for implementing the method and for a position sensor.
