PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized falling sensor for detecting the falling state of a portable electronic apparatus as a note personal computer. SOLUTION: This falling sensor 1 comprises a movable electrode 6 having a plurality of movable parts 6A arranged thereon, a fixed electrode 2 provided on the outside of the movable electrode, and an inertial body 10. The falling sensor 1 is arranged so that the central axis is right-angled to the gravity direction, whereby the movable electrode 6A is generally elastically deformed by the weight of the inertial body 10 to make contact with the fixed contact 2. When the weight of the inertial body 10 is a prescribed value or less by falling, the movable contact 6A pushes back the inertial body 10 and separates from the fixed contact 2 to open the electric path. The movable parts 6A are arranged at equal intervals on the circumference having an equal distance to the central axis of the sensor, whereby a prescribed characteristic can be obtained if the falling sensor 1 is arranged so that the central axis is right- angled to the gravity direction. Accordingly, the freedom of the mounting attitudes of the falling sensor and the apparatus provided with the sensor can be increased to facilitate the mounting work.
