PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide video communication equipment capable of transmitting an image read by a hand scanner to a main device at a remote place through a portable telephone. SOLUTION: An attachable and detachable read unit (hand scanner) is provided with a modem function and an analog interface which inputs and outputs the transmission and reception signals of a modem as a quasi-voice signal to/ from an external device.
